Estcourt cyclist embarks on 2 000km tour

Mr Cameron began his bicycle tour early on Sunday morning and estimates that it will take 18 days to complete the distance

‘Going nowhere slowly.’

That is Willem Cameron’s motto as he takes on a 2 000km bicycle tour from Estcourt to Richtersfeld in the Northern Cape.

Mr Cameron began his bicycle tour early on Sunday morning and estimates that it will take 18 days to complete the distance. This tour is a personal challenge for Mr Cameron who wanted to do a long distance trip.

“I did a countrywide trip in my early 20’s with a friend; hitch hiking and sleeping next to the road, just because we could. Presently, at my age, I should not try that again, but here I am. Besides if the spirit is willing…” explained Mr Cameron.

The avid cyclist says that while he has received a lot of laughs from friends and acquaintances about the trip, he can’t wait to see the surprise in their eyes as he continues on his journey.

A carefully laid out plan and itinerary has been made and will be followed during the course of the cycle tour. Good luck to Mr Cameron on this epic journey.
