Ladysmith wonders why Smartiesville has been forgotten, with long grass and terrible roads

Resident Louis Campbell pointed out water pipes that are leaking

The ratepayers of Smartiesville are wondering why their area has been “forgotten”…

Throughout Smartiesville, streets and pieces of vacant land have long grass, making the area look neglected.

Speaking to homeowners and motorists, they say the land has to be taken care of by the municipality. “We don’t own the land, so we can’t clean it,” say residents.

One motorist said he can’t see when driving out of the street he lives in, as the grass is so long. He claims that, on numerous occasions, he has almost had an accident because he couldn’t see other cars until it was almost too late.

Resident Louis Campbell says that Cornflower Street has been left in a sorry state of disrepair.

The entire tar road is gone and is now only gravel, with grass growing everywhere, making the road and sidewalk one green carpet of grass.

At the side of many roads, Louis pointed out water pipes that are leaking and causing swamp-like areas where a vehicle could get stuck or a child could easily come to harm.

The community of Smartiesville want to know why nothing is being done for them when they pay their rates.

Residents want the area to be “fixed up” and brought back to the way it was so they can lead a normal life.
