Three members of the Dundee Angling Club were chosen to represent KZN in the Premier Men’s Senior SA Championships C team at Bloemhof Dam.
Bloemhof Dam, originally known as the Oppermansdrif Dam when under construction during the late 1960s, is located at the confluence of the Vaal and Vet Rivers, on the border between the provinces North West and Free State.
Pierre Duval was a fishing manager while fellow Dundee anglers, Corne Barnard and Vishal Dookhi, went as fishermen. The SA Championships took place over six days – with days for practice and three for competition.
“Fishing was very hard due to the huge amount of fresh water that entered the dam in the past few weeks as well has an unusually high amount of hyacinth,” said Pierre.
“So fishing started every day with team members having to swim out to run ropes to clear the hyacinth. The C team came sixth out of a total of nine teams. We look forward to next year when hopefully we can continue to improve on our standings. Two of our team members were invited to take part in the upcoming National Trails.”
