Mason shines on the course
After almost a year’s absence from the game, local Dundee Country Club golfer, Mason Meyer, is rapidly showing his former golfing abilities. Competing in Saturday’s Monthly Mug Medal competition, which attracted a field of 33 players and has just narrowly been beaten in the final of the Club Matchplay a week ago, Mason shot an excellent two under par round of 69 to finish one shot ahead of Louis Albertse (Jnr), who is currently flying the Dundee golf flag high around the country while competing in a number of amateur tournaments.
The Men’s B division Mug was won by Clement Chawanda who finished on a net 68, narrowly beating diminutive Reynier Van Rensburg (Jnr).

There were six players who carded a 2 Club on the day and they were: Jan Van Der Merwe, Shakeel Kalideen and Mason Meyer, all at the 4th hole, Walter du Plessis on the 12th, John Zulu on the 16th together with Louis Albertse (Jnr), who chipped in his second shot on the par-four 18th hole for his 2 Club.
Oriental Day – a huge success
On Sunday Dundee Country Club was proud to host the Dunpro Sports Club who held their annual Charlie’s SuperSpar Oriental Golf Day which attracted a maximum field of 130 golfers. On behalf of the club, the committee would like to thank Dunpro for a successful and well-organised event.

Dion Sadaw, DunPro captain, who ran the tournament like a pro, said the day is a ‘brand event in Dundee’ with big sponsorships from Charlies SuperSpar, Euro Marquees and many others. “It is great that a team of junior golfers all the way from Mandini on the north coast made a trip here, leaving at 4am to tee off. Thanks to Siya Mthembu who arranged this.’ Dion said it was pleasing to see young and veteran golfers supporting Oriental Day.
Lindokuhle Mbokazi of Mandini won the junior trophy while Mohammed Uwais Moola of Newcastle took the honours in the seniors’ section on 42 points after a count out. Siya Mthembu of Mandini was second and took home a lounge suite as his prize! Dundee’s veteran, Jo Khumalo, was third and Wiseman Mdunge fourth.
