No place for corrupt councillors, warns Cyril Ramaphosa ahead of Nquthu by-elections
He also did not elaborate on what 'radical economic change' is but according to ANC policy it is not 'simply taking from the rich and giving to the poor'.
Elected ANC Councillors who are found to be ‘lazy and corrupt’ will be recalled and replaced. That was the stern warning from Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa who was on the campaign trail in Nquthu ahead of the much anticipated May 24 by-elections.
Hours after announcing that KZN Premier, Willies Mchunu has established a commission of inquiry to get to the root of political killings in the Province, ANC activist, Siphamandla Ngobese of KwaDlangamandla in Ward 17, was stabbed to death after returning home from attending Mr Ramaphosa’s rally.
“We are very proud of our candidates and know that the ANC will win this election to improve service delivery in Nquthu”
However, it is believed that the murder was related to a family dispute and not politically motivated.
Speaking to the Courier on Saturday, Mr Ramaphosa said ‘the ANC is satisfied that the candidates chosen to fight for the election are those elected by the people’.
“We are very proud of our candidates and know that the ANC will win this election to improve service delivery in Nquthu,” he told the Courier’s Siphiwe Ngwenya. He added that there ‘are forces intent on making KZN ungovernable by committing politically-motivated murders’. “We are going door-to-door to visit especially women in this area who have complained that the land that they have to till is too small and not suitable for cultivation. We have many young people who cannot find work. We believe that Government’s Radical Economic Change programme will help create jobs and return land back to the people.
“However, we will not take land by force.” He also did not elaborate on what ‘radical economic change’ is but according to ANC policy it is not ‘simply taking from the rich and giving to the poor’.
Mr Ramaphosa called on all political parties to participate in the elections freely and without violence.
