There was much excitement at assembly on the morning of May 5 as the Principal, Mr DH Zuma congratulated educators and staff from ML Sultan Estcourt Primary School on their performance in the choir competition.

Out of 36 schools, ML Sultan Estcourt walked away with position one for all their renditions. It took months of practice before the young learners of ML Sultan Estcourt Primary were ready to participate in the South African Schools Choral Eistedfodd which was held on May 4 in Winterton.

The Foundation Phase choir comprised of grade one and two learners. They sang “Sikhuliseni Kahle” and “Jesus, Lamb of God”. The judges commended the learners on their outstanding performances. The Intermediate Phase choir comprised of grade three and four learners. The audience was impressed when learners sang “Izimpawu Zamgwaqa” as they used a robot to demonstrate the importance of road safety.

The highlight of the competition was the item “Child’s Prayer”. Not only did the learners use a variety of resources, but this song was about thanking parents and teachers for all their efforts. The judges were so delighted that they allocated 80 percent for this excellent performance.

The Intermediate Phase learners will proceed to the regional level, which will be held in Glencoe on May 17. The School Management Team wishes to thank parents and learners for their support as well as educators, Miss NC Ngcobo and Mrs FH Makhathini for their hard work.
The choir mistresses also wish to thank the following educators for accompanying them on this trip, viz the Principal, Mr DH Zuma, Miss AED Appenah, Ms ZD Zulu and Mr MV Ntlangeni.
