The future of the Estcourt Bowling Club hinges on the support of the community.

The sad truth is that this well-established sport and recreational facility, located in Lorne Street, will be closing down at the end of May, unless a joint intervention is taken.

To prevent the imminent closure of the club, a group of local businessmen have banded together to seek solutions and a way forward.

“The club is in dire straits. A group of Estcourt businessmen are trying to revive the bowling club,” said Roy Rudham, who is one of the locals involved.

He says that a decision has been taken to hold a meeting on Thursday, May 25 at the Lion’s Den in Victoria Street at 6pm, where the community can elect a new bowling club committee and brainstorm ideas to keep the club afloat.

“Thus far, we’ve spoken about drastically reducing the annual subs; this will mean that more people can afford to join the club. We are also looking at inviting novices, who will be taught about the game of bowls,” added Mr Rudham.

In addition, new ideas for tournaments and leagues will be discussed.

“The bowling club has been in Estcourt for many years, we don’t want to lose it. We call on the public to be present at the meeting, so we can discuss a way forward together,” concluded Mr Rudham.
