Four suspects were arrested over the weekend in the Uthukela Cluster in separate cases of robbery and assault GBH.
On Saturday afternoon (July 22), an 18-year-old male was injured after he was stabbed during a robbery in Residency Road. The 26-year-old suspect wanted to steal his cell-phone.
With the assistance of members of the community, the suspect was apprehended and appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where he faced a charge of robbery.
Later the same day, a suspect aged 20 was arrested in Queen Street after he had stabbed a 26-year-old man while robbing him of cash.

Members of the community caught the suspect and allegedly assaulted him before handing the injured suspect over to police.
The suspect was later admitted to hospital as a result of his injuries. The suspect is currently still in hospital and will face a charge of robbery.
On Sunday, a 22-year-old man was arrested in the Zwelisha area of Wembezi. He, together with two accomplices, entered the house of a 26-year-old woman. They demanded her bank card pin number.
When they left, she noticed that two cell-phones, a flat-screen television and a DVD player were missing from the premises. One of the suspects was subsequently arrested by police and appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing a charge of house robbery. Police are searching for the other suspects.
A 24-year-old man was arrested in the Estcourt area on Saturday after he assaulted his 10-year-old nephew. The young boy sustained injuries to the head and other parts of the body after being hit with a stick.
The suspect appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on Monday. He faces a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
