Rape, domestic violence and sexual abuse plague our streets more often than we realise.
The Newcastle Advertiser met with Lifeline Newcastle Satellite Office Manager (LNSO) and social worker, Nokulunga Magubane to discuss the severity of the problem.
As many as 30 to 40 cases of rape and sexual abuse were allegedly reported each month.
Magubane said counsellors at the Thuthuzela Care Centre (TCC) in Madadeni received reports of rape and sexual abuse daily.
“Although it is clear there is a decrease in occurrences, this continuing abuse is still a cause for concern.”
