Six arrested for public violence in Weenen

Charges of public violence have been brought against six people who were part of a group that blockaded the R74 on Thursday.

Aged between 27 and 66, the six people were arrested in the Magageni area of Weenen.

“The group were part of a larger group from the community who had used stones and trees to block the R74 road way. The group were also hurling rocks at passing motor vehicles,” commented police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.

The suspects appeared in the Weenen Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
