Police in the Uthukela Cluster have been clamping down on drugs, firearms and stolen property. Over the weekend 24 people were arrested for such offences and are set to appear in various courts across the cluster.
Ntabamhlophe police officers arrested a 39-year-old woman at Shayamoya after she was found in possession of an unlicensed pistol and ammunition. After which a 46-year-old woman was arrested at the same area for another pistol and ammunition.
While a 32-year-old man was arrested in the Ntabamhlophe area with a third pistol and ammunition. Police also then arrested a 21 and 40-year-old suspect who were found in possession of a few grams of dagga each.
Amangwe police arrested five suspects, aged between 20 and 44, after they were found in possession of dagga.
The dagga all weighed a few grams. Colenso police added to the total by arresting a 29-year-old woman for a small amount of dagga at Nkanyezi area.
This was followed by the arrest of a 59-year-old woman for the possession of stolen property. She was found in possession of nine rolls of stolen fencing. In addition, Bergville police arrested three suspects, aged 26, 31 and 39 for the possession of dagga.
The dagga seized between the three weighed in at a total of just over 5kg. The estimated street value of the dagga is around R7 500. Estcourt police arrested two suspects, aged 23, after they were found in possession of stolen property.
The property consisted of four wheels. A third suspect was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed pistol and ammunition, while three others were arrested for the possession of dagga and what appears to be rock cocaine.
The drugs will be sent away for testing to determine the true nature of the drug.
