NRS athletes break several records

The boys appear to have dominated both on the track and in the field events, where six records were broken.

ALTHOUGH rather chilly conditions prevailed, our annual athletics meeting held on August 24 and 25, was once again a happy, successful event.

The boys appear to have dominated both on the track and in the field events, where six records were broken. Bubele Ngubane broke the high jump record for u/9 boys and Khwezi Gule broke the shot put record for u/14 boys. On the track the following athletes broke records: Carlos Lovell in the 80 m for u/11 boys and Cameron Louw in the 100 m for u/14 boys. In the relays the u/14 boys bettered the existing record by close on 5 seconds. In addition, Nikita Hughes broke the long-standing record of Elmarie Moolman in the discus for u/12 girls.

Well done to all the athletes, and a big thank you to Mrs C. de Jager, the NRS staff and parents for their assistance. Thank you once again to Vryheid High School for the use of their facilities.

Sevens rugby: Last weekend NRS sent two u/12 teams to take part in the Michaelhouse Sevens Festival. The NRS u/12A and u/12B teams each played five matches and were both unbeaten in the tournament. Well done, boys! Thank you to Mr I. Potgieter and Mr L. Müller who accompanied them.

Skaak: Verlede Woensdag het ons skaakspan teen Hoërskool Vryheid kragte gemeet. Dit was nogal intimiderend om teen sulke groot spelers te staan te kom. NRS verloor uiteindelik 5-8 teen VHS.
