READ NOW: Marconi Drive to be assessed and fixed

The surface deteriorated again, leaving motorists doing their utmost to avoid damaging their cars by driving where the road was in a good state.

It seemed there was little hope for Marconi Drive, Riverside Industria, after potholes left sections of the road in a bad state.

This issue was brought to light in August, when a resident complained about the deteriorating standard of the road surface.

“In some places, I am forced to drive on the wrong side of the road to avoid damaging my car,” explained the resident, who wished to remain anonymous.

Two of her colleagues sustained damage to their vehicles due to the abundance of potholes in the road. Newcastle Municipality’s Technical Department claimed Marconi Drive was last resurfaced between 10 to 15 years ago.

In a statement submitted by the department, a visual assessment was undertaken, and the potholes repaired.

However, the surface deteriorated again, leaving motorists doing their utmost to avoid damaging their cars by driving where the road was in a good state.

The Technical Department said it planned to address defects in the upcoming week, by assessing the problem and resurfacing the road.
