Dundee Homecoming – a Heritage Weekend to remember

Saturday sees a tour of Orange Grove (a rare chance to see this modern dairy right on our doorstep).

Dundee’s heritage will be celebrated over Heritage Weekend, which marks the 135th anniversary of the town: 90 years of Orange Grove Dairy, 100 years of the Dutch Reformed Church and 100 years of the Dundee High School buildings.
Saturday sees a tour of Orange Grove (a rare chance to see this modern dairy right on our doorstep).

Meet at Indumeni Farms at 8am for the milking of the cows.

8am-8:45 am: visit Indumeni Farms to view the milking of the  cows
Directions: Drive out of Dundee on the Wasbank road for about 1 km out of town.
Second turn off to your right is Glynton Jersey Indumeni Farms.
Turn right there and drive for about 700m until you see the milking parlour on your left.

 

9:30am-11;30am: visit Orange Grove Dairy for a tour of the new production factory
Directions: Drive out of Dundee on the Wasbank road.  The first turn to your right is signposted ORANGE GROVE DAIRY
Turn left and drive for about 900m
Turn right over a little drain bridge and drive straight to the factory parking.
The entrance gate is in front of you.

Requirements: Please wear closed shoes
Please remove all jewellery ( earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings etc)
Jackets and hair nets will be provided.
Cost: No Charge

The day then moves on to Talana Museum for the official opening at 2pm of the new Heritage Dundee exhibit showcasing 135 years of the history of the area.

One can browse around the Dundee High Matric art exhibition and enjoy a high tea.
Heritage Day, Sunday, sees the Heritage Trail Walk in central Dundee where walkers will be able to meet characters from the past, including Gandhi who appeared in the Dundee Court 100 years ago, who will bring history alive.
Refreshments on the route on Sunday.
