She died as she always lived, peacefully

Mrs Sumintra Ramsunder Mocktar (102) passed to her rest on October 7. She died as she always lived, peacefully. Born in Pomeroy, she lived all her married life in Winterton.

In the year 1998, she was shot when robbers entered her house. She sustained a bullet wound to her neck. Fortunately she recovered fully, together with her eldest daughter, Shanti, who was also shot. Due to the robbery, the family relocated to Estcourt where they lived ever since.

She lived a full and active life, always tending to her garden, housework and her passion, needlework – all of which she enjoyed tremendously. She is survived by three daughters, five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. According to her eldest great grandchild Ashreetha, her great grandmother was always very warm, very welcoming and very generous.

These wonderful qualities were passed on to her family members. She was young at heart and always enjoyed watching soapies with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always rearranged scripts in the soapies. Bold and the Beautiful to her was ‘Gold and Beautiful’ and Stefano from days of our Lives fames was ‘Saphna,’ the list was endless.

There was never an end to her inborn humour. She was a member of the Estcourt Senior Citizens Club. Being deeply religious, she spent much of her quality time at the local temple which fortunately is located in front of her house.

One of her family members aptly penned these words: ‘She might not have had too much of this world’s goods, but she most definitely gave all she had.” The family would like to thank all those who expressed words of encouragement and those who assisted.

Rest in peace, ma.
