73-year-old German doctor rescued and airlifted by paramedics after fall in Drakensberg

A 73-year-old German doctor had to be rescued by paramedics yesterday afternoon (October 24).
The German doctor was out on a mountain trail when he fell and was injured in the Giants Castle area.
The man was with his wife and other tourists when the incident took place. He sustained a broken arm and also broken ribs, and was airlifted from the scene by NKZN Mountain Rescue and Westline Aviation.
The injured doctor was taken by chopper to Bergville Fire Station.

Paramedics from Ladysmith treated him for moderate injuries.

The German man was then taken by paramedics to a hospital in Pietermaritzburg.
