DHS learners experience the love and tragedy of art
"An experience of a lifetime shared with the best of people. A group with a passion for art who learnt that art can make you feel.
DHS art tour to Durban
On September 20, the DHS art learners, accompanied by Mrs Carter, left to go to Pietermaritzburg to visit many art galleries.
These learners were inspired by many Southern African artists and their absolutely unique work. The following day, they travelled to the Durban Art Gallery where the Gr11 learners were able to see artworks of various artists which they will be studying more closely in their matric year. Thanks so much to Mrs Carter for organising the tour with extremely contagious enthusiasm and passion for art. Some learners responded:
“An experience of a lifetime shared with the best of people. A group with a passion for art who learnt that art can make you feel. I love art! Life is an artwork in every scene, my favourite by far was building sandcastles on the beach.” (Laura de Oliviera)
“Mates becoming friends turning into family. To Mrs Carter – Thanks for the tragedy of art. I really needed that perspective for my own art and development. Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.” (Nthando Mazibuko). “Having been given the chance to meet and learn from local artists, who have had their art exhibited in New York, was an unforgettable experience, which inspired me and opened my eyes to the endless opportunities and possibilities of art.” (Reece Nair)
Joshua Donaldson – Enduro Championship
Joshua Donaldson took part in the SA Enduro Championship at Hakahana Trail Centre on October 21 in Pretoria. After five stages of timed descents on rough, rocky terrain, Joshua managed to finish in a time of 20:51. This excellent time ensured that Joshua received a third place in the South African Junior Men’s Section of 2017. Joshua remains humble and he is even more driven.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the event and can’t wait for next season’s events where I plan to improve! Thanks to my family for supporting me in every event.”
DHS is very proud of Joshua for his accomplishments. Well done and keep it up!
