SASSA says glitch that prevented beneficiaries from collecting money resolved

Many in the Endumeni area panicked when merchants could not pay them out because of a SASSA hiccup

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) says it has resolved a technical issue that affected social grant beneficiaries on Wednesday morning.

Many people were not able to draw their grants from ATMs or at accredited merchants in the Endumeni area and in other parts of the country.

Beneficiaries hoping to collect their grant money said their transactions were either declined or there was no balance available.

Supermarket owners who spoke to the Courier confirmed that the ‘fault was definitely on Sassa’s side’

Sassa’s Dianne Dunkerley says the matter has now been resolved.

“There was a problem with the Mastercard interface system. It has since been resolved and payments are now happening as normal. The problem particularly happened to people at merchants, like supermarkets, and at some ATMs.”
