Wilma Lindeque is driven by speed
Wilma took part in the South African Championships earlier this year, and participated in the 1600 Division.
She is an adrenaline junkie, and racing cars played a major role in Wilma Lindeque’s life.
As a regular participant at Newcastle Oval Track, Wilma said her journey at the track began in 2015.
“My husband was racing and I was tired of sitting on the outside and just watching,” she laughed.
In fact, Wilma said she and her husband met at a race track.
“We met a few years ago, did some rubber duck racing together and so on and when we got married, I fell pregnant.”
Unable to continue racing while pregnant, Wilma slammed on the brakes in her racing quest, and waited for the right time to launch into racing.
“After my second child was born, I joined the Oval Track and I love it.”
Wilma took part in the South African Championships earlier this year, and participated in the 1600 Division.
“It was a mixed race, with both men and women competing, and I took third place.” An achievement of which she is very proud.
“I took part last year and took fourth place, missing the trophy. But this year, if you look at it nationally, I have climbed up one place.”
Wilma said she would encourage other’s to follow her example and participate in Oval Track racing, especially other women.
“I believe there are a lot of good female drivers out there. Plus, Oval Track boosts your confidence and makes you better driver,” she concluded.
