Armed robbers get away with large amount of cash

THREE armed robbers got away with a large amount of cash stolen from Quik Check last Tuesday.According to Captain Cheryl Venter of Vryheid SAPS, staff were busy with the daily cash-up when the robbery took place.

“The staff responded to a knock at the door and opened the door when they recognised the voice as that of the security guard from the warehouse. When they opened the door, three armed men entered the store behind the guard. One of the men fired a shot toward the assistant manager, who, fortunately, managed to dodge the bullet,” said Captain Venter.

It is believed that a second armed robber grabbed the cash off the counter, while the third gave chase when the manager ran through the aisles of the store in a panic. Once the third suspect returned with the manager, the staff was instructed to open the safe and a large sum of money was taken.

Police detained the security guard for further questioning. No arrests have yet been made.
