Man struck by train while fleeing from police

While fleeing from police, the man sprinted towards the railway track and was struck by a passing train,

The man believed to be responsible for theft at a Brewitt Park property was severely injured while making an escape from police last week.

Believed to be the man captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the property, police attempted to apprehend the man last Thursday.

While fleeing from police, the man sprinted towards the railway track and was struck by a passing train. The man’s leg was reportedly severed.  He is under police guard in hospital.

“He has been charged for theft and will appear in court as soon as he is fit enough to stand trial,” said police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.

The man is suspected of being involved in a house break-in in Brewitt Road on October 26 where various tools were stolen.
