Rural community is serious about HIV and AIDS
The goal of the event was to spread awareness of HIV and put responsibility for controlling the epidemic in the hands of the youth. Guest speakers spoke about teenage pregnancy, voluntary medical male circumcision, and HIV prevention.
The Scelukukhanya Home Based Care, Ikwezi Elihle Drop-In Centre, and Mpilonhle Sanctuary Organization hosted a Youth World AIDS Day Build Up event at Limehill community hall on November 10.
The goal of the event was to spread awareness of HIV and put responsibility for controlling the epidemic in the hands of the youth. Guest speakers spoke about teenage pregnancy, voluntary medical male circumcision, and HIV prevention.
Local youth talent was also on display with groups performing gospels and wedding songs. Mpilonhle offered HIV counselling and testing on site for all of those in attendance.
The event concluded with a candle-lighting ceremony for those infected with and affected by HIV and AIDS in the Limehill community.
