Armed with a pen, a notepad and the heart of a poet, 16-year-old Njabulo Zulu is set to inspire Newcastillians through his weekly poetry column, Coffee with Franky.
Njabulo will be submitting his dynamic poetry for readers to enjoy. Below is the first part of this new column by Njabulo, one of Newcastle’s talented youngsters:
Fundamental Roots
When a perspective is subordinated by feelings of anxiety
When an inferior human being was cephalised for prosperity
When a legend, King or Icon was born out of endurancy
Tales where twisted to return to its original fate fearlessly
Poetry was born
When she felt the pain bruising her soul
When he felt the struggle destroying him alone
When they felt the inhumane actions leaving them all alone
Poetry was born
When he felt the music talking to the heart
When he couldn’t do anything but art
When he started off small selling in the coffee cart
Made a clear visions on charts
Poetry was born
When he saw her and smiled with delight
When she felt the same way and reached a certain height
When he adored her kisses and fights
When he promised to be always around until she sees the light
Poetry was born
When words were used as a dynamite
To surpass, uplift and prioritize
When pain and anger had no limited size
Premeditated actions were the surprise
