Residents are living in fear in Poplar Avenue

Poplar Avenue (Paradise) residents would like for the continuous corruption unfolding at a neighbouring home to end.

The family, who would like to remain anonymous as they fear victimisation, say that they can no longer live in such an environment.

It appears as though the home owner no longer resides there, but according to the concerned family, the verbal and physical altercations among the people who stay there, make them anxious.

They added that illegal activities take place there and those present are allegedly under the influence of either alcohol or drugs.

Parents fear that their children will become attracted to these negative influences. This has been on-going for approximately five months and for safety reasons, the residents would like for authorities to step in.

They have informed the municipality on numerous occasions to deal with the matter, but this approach has gone unsuccessful. The Estcourt News contact the police to find out if they would intervene.

“We have taken note of the alleged situation in Poplar Avenue and would like to place on record our appreciation for bringing the allegations to our notice. We are obliged to investigate the allegation further, though it will take longer without the physical address of the premises. The Estcourt Station Commander has in the meantime beefed up patrols in the area and has requested the Community Policing Forum Chairperson from the area to assist us with information,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Ahmed Khan.
