It is believed that the Van Wyk’s put in an insurance claim for a stolen Toyota double cab in June this year. The insurance company was allegedly tipped off that the couple was spotted driving around in the ‘stolen vehicle’ after the insurance company had paid them out.

While this is yet to be confirmed, sources indicate that other instances of fraud are also under investigation and likely to be added to the current charges in due course.

In addition to fraud, Etienne has been charged with the possession of an illegal firearm after an unlicensed firearm was found on him at the time of his arrest.
