Family spat ends in double murder in Weenen

Investigations have established that the husband, aged 59, and wife (45) had been having an argument

A mother and her son were shot and killed on January 3, allegedly by the man of their household. The grim discovery was made by Weenen police who were summoned to the Ezintendeni area at about 8.20am.

Investigations have established that the husband, aged 59, and wife (45) had been having an argument. This led to the man shooting and killing his wife and son (15). He has since handed himself over to police.

“Police seized an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspect faces two counts of murder, as well as charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” commented police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.

The man appeared in the Weenen Magistrate’s Court on January 5.
