Mayor announces R350 000 boost for deserving students

Mayor Richard Mbatha has congratulated the matric Class of 2017 for ensuring the ‘exceptional improvement in the KZN pass rate from 69, 5% in 2016 to 72,85’
“Your dedication and hard work comes in the wake of the nation-wide call of the fees-must-fall campaign that gripped the country when the rank and file of students blew a clarion call for free education.
“It also comes just after the announcement by the President that free education will finally be offered to the youth of this country.
“Although we haven’t seen the roll out plan of this undertaking, as the youngest Mayor, I view the educational growth of our nation as a fundamental tenet to economic growth and ultimately, to the total freedom of our nation and this province in particular.
“We encourage our matriculants to take advantage of this offer as our gesture of appreciation for their hard work to inspire hope for a brighter future.”
“In reference to our IFP policy, which stipulates that education should be financed from state budgetary allocations, it should be noted that state allocations should be strengthened by private sector donations and grants, which should be tax deductible.
” In addition to the basic form of funding, schools serving disadvantaged communities should receive money from a redress fund, which will be used to improve grounds, buildings, other infrastructure and equipment. Therefore it is our pleasure to announce that the Endumeni municipality is contributing an amount of R350 000 for academically deserving and excellent achievers from our area of jurisdiction that covers seven wards around the Dundee, Glencoe and Wasbank areas.
