Nquthu schools performed admirably in the 2017 matric exams, prompting Mayor, SM Kunene, to congratulate the Class of 2017.
Mayor Kunene also announced that R600 000 will go towards assisting the academically deserving and excellent achievers from disadvantaged and indigent families who reside within the Nquthu Municipality area of jurisdiction for the academic year 2018.
The municipal bursary forms can be obtained from the Reception and Youth Desk Office, Number 10 (new building).
The closing date is January 19.
“By doing this we are planting a seed towards ensuring an improved level of the graduate professional base in Nquthu and we will achieve this through ensuring that education remains at the apex of our priorities in moving our Municipality forward. This bursary fund reflects this commitment,” said Mayor Kunene.
“To those who did not pass their matric, it is not the end but is the beginning to try again. You must be inspired by your peers and realise that nothing is unachievable.”
The Mayor congratulated the best performing schools within Nquthu: Idlamadoda Secondary 97.73 %, Ubongumenzi Secondary 96,36%, Mathukulula Secondary 94.12 %, Siyanda Secondary 93,48% and Springlake Secondary 93,15%.
“We want to commit to our continued support, where possible, to ensure that the underperforming schools in our Municipality will improve.
“We also want to encourage parents to play a vital role in their children’s education by working hand-in-hand with the educators by encouraging the students to work hard in order to reach their goals.”
