Arrest made in connection with Mondlo rapes

The man believed to be responsible for raping a murdering an 12-year-old child and her grandmother is now behind bars.

POLICE believe they have finally brought the man, who was caught and assaulted by the Mondlo Block C community after he allegedly raped and murdered a pensioner and her 12-year old granddaughter in the area, to book.

The man is said to have been taken to Vryheid Hospital by the police, as he was badly hurt during the assault.

The man escaped from his hospital bed by unscrewing the bed bolts, and cutting off his leg irons, with the help of a security guard, believed to be from the Sasko area.

He then fled the hospital premises, burned the hospital pyjamas he had been wearing, and headed for the Sasko area where he was later caught.

It was discovered that the man was a parolee, who had been serving a 10-year sentence since 2009, but had been let out two years early.

The man in believed to have attacked a pensioner, (who is said to have been mentally challenged) and her granddaughter, in their Mondlo home and is believed to have murdered them when the old woman screamed for help.
