The annual Ladysmith High School (LHS) ‘Watermelon Feast’ took place on the school’s sports grounds on Thursday last week (January 18).
Learners from Grade 8 to matric had the opportunity to smear each other with watermelon and have loads of fun.
The prefects at the school, with the help of their teachers, cut the watermelon into pieces while the rest of the school waited patiently for the action to begin.
The learners who didn’t want to get dirty were allowed to just sit at the side of the field, eat their delicious watermelon and look on in amusement as their friends chased each other around with the sole objective of making everyone sticky!
It was excitement galore, and even the teachers who watched over the learners were seen having a ball of a time.
Some of the matric pupils chose to make hard hats out of the watermelon peel so that they were super-prepared for the “warfare” on the field.

The hot weather conditions added to the festive atmosphere, with the learners thoroughly enjoying cooling off, relaxing and munching away.
There were however some sad expressions on the faces of the matrics as they realised this was their last-ever Watermelon Feast at LHS.
