Robbed in the CBD in less than 10 seconds

A recent victim of crime in the CBD warns residents to be vigilant when walking past shop entrances and alleys.
The resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said he had been walking with his wife from Top Sport, on Church Street, toward Landdrost Street, when two men approached him.
“One of them grabbed me by the belt and was almost jumping up and down, repeating, ‘My friend, my friend, my friend.’ Before I realised what was happening or had a chance to ask him what he wanted, he had run off with his friend. This happened in about 10 to 15 seconds. Just after that, a man who had observed what had happened, told me they had stolen my wallet,” said the victim.

“I just want to warn the community to be aware so that they don’t suffer the same fate as me. Be alert when you see people lingering in the entrances of shops on alleys. Don’t put your wallet in your pocket where someone can reach it. Place it somewhere secure.”
