Search continuing for last child who was washed away

The recovery operation is continuing

An intensive is continuing this morning for Ayabonga Steele (8) who, along with his two sisters, was washed away when the Steenkoolspruit broke its banks during Thursday evening’s flash flood.

Police and others are combing the river bank, past Vulindela Bush Camp on the Ngisane Road, towards the Vryheid road.

On Sunday, the body of Melokuhle Steele, (11) was found among thick debris and litter alongside the Steenkoolspruit, in the vicinity of the high railway bridge, on the fringes of the industrial area.

Yesterday, the remains of Kholeka Khumalo (5), were found near the river in the vicinity of the Vulindela Bush Camp. This week the Gift of the Givers organisation will be town to donate towards storm victims.

The storm has so far claimed six lives and damaged over 120 homes and buildings.
