Search from the air for missing storm victim (9)

The family will hold the funeral at the stadium in Sibongile on Sunday and are desperate for closure.

The search has resumed again this morning for nine-year-old Ayabonga Steele who was one of three siblings washed away by the flooded Steenkoolspruit during the January 25 storm.

A SAPS helicopter from Durban, carrying a police diver and other members, is currently scouring the course of the river in the hope that the body will be found.

Ayabonga’s two sisters, Melokuhle Steele (10), Kholeka Khumalo (5), were found on January 28 and 29 respectively. Melokuhle’s body was found among thick reeds near the high steel rail bridge below Sibongile park while Kholeka’s remains were found by a passer-by behind Vulindela Bush Camp on the Ngisane Road.
