A successful sports weekend for Sarel Cilliers
This past weekend selected athletes from the school took part in the Umzinyathi trials and excelled in many items.
On Wednesday, February 7, Sarel Cilliers’ athletes were invited to a relay event at Vryheid High School. It took place in the evening, which adds great excitement to the races.
A large number of schools were present and the competition was very stiff. However, the u/15 boys and u/17 girls teams did really well.
The boys came second and the girls third.
This past weekend selected athletes from the school took part in the Umzinyathi trials and excelled in many items. Some of the grade 8s are really good athletes and had everyone on their feet, cheering!
Action Cricket
The development team had an excellent showing. The captain was Shavir Tooray. Dannhauser Club made 144 and Sarel made 89.
Netball Tournament
The u/16 team played brilliantly, despite just barely losing their games. Lusiwe Mkhonza, the Centre, received the man-of-the-match award against Dundee. The Goal Attack, Mbali Mkhize also did an extremely good job on the field and the school is proud of her. Sarel’s scores were as follows: against Dundee 5-6, Pionier 3-5, Ferrum 6-9 and NHS 5-6. Sarel Cilliers team had to play sudden death against Newcastle High after a tie and lost at the last minute.
The first team lost against Pionier 18-3, Newcastle High 15-2 and Eshowe 12-3. Nontobeko Matupha, the AV and Mlando Nxumalo, VV, played superbly!
