Armed gang strike – one guard shot dead

A security guard was shot dead and another injured when a group of armed men fired shots during a cash heist in the Blaauwbosch/Madadeni area yesterday afternoon.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane, said the guards had gone to collect cash at a business premises, The Theku Plaza, and were loading money at the Standard Bank ATM when the gang of eight heavily armed men struck.

One guard was shot and died at the scene and another guard wounded and rushed to hospital.

” They took an undisclosed amount of cash and also robbed the security guards of firearms – a rifle and a handgun. The police are still searching for the suspects who fled the scene in their getaway vehicles.”
