Five arrested for arson, one arrested for stock theft

All six men have appeared in the Dannhauser Magistrate's Court.

Five men were arrested for arson and one man was arrested for stock theft after angry community members burnt down a home at Peach Hill Farm, Dannhauser.

On February 13, community members assaulted a man, alleging that he had stolen their cattle.
They then started breaking the windows of his house with stones and set it alight as well as his car.
The value of the damaged properties is estimated at approximately R120 000.

No one was seriously injured during the incident. Police revealed that before the community decided to burn down the house, 15 sheep were stolen in the area and 13 were recovered.
One of the sheep was found by the community, allegedly hidden by the man, but it had already been slaughtered. Five men, aged between 29 to 35 were arrested for arson. The victim of the crime was then arrested for stock theft. All six men have appeared in the Dannhauser Magistrate’s Court.
