A trek to the Cape on bicycles to raise money for Rotary supported projects
The cyclists will arrive in Cape Town and had just one days rest before most once again picked up their machines to compete in the Cape Town Cycle Tour on Sunday!
A group of 20 cyclists from the Empangeni Rotary Club passed through Dundee last Monday on their way to Cape Town as part of the 10th Rotary Connection Ride,
Since its inception, the Connection Ride has raised over R4,8-million for sustainable Rotary-supported projects.
There were 19 bikes and 20 riders (one in tandem!) that rode into Dundee on a rainy Monday morning. They were met by Dundee Rotarians, including Ken Vorster and Prem Lutchman while Hester Vorster had laid on snacks for the group that had left from Vryheid earlier in the morning.
Andrew Killick, team captain, said the cyclists left Dundee for Ladysmith before passing through Golden Gate and overnighting in Clarens.
From there it was off to Aliwal North and through the Karoo to Beaufort West – a 210km ride.
