"He taught us to respect and made us understand the importance of each task." Ms Cedris said: "I will share the information I have learnt with other officials."

After 41 years of loyal service, Glencoe Correctional Services said a fond farewell to Tallies Taljaard at a function held on February 28.
Tallies, as he is fondly known, joined the then Prison Services in 1977 and underwent basic training at the Kroonstad College, before working at various prisons in the Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
He served in various capacities – including at Dundee Prison – before his last calling at the Glencoe Area Commissioner’s office.
Before he could finally hang up his boots, Mr Taljaard had one final task – to help transfer his vast knowledge, acquired during 41-years service, to young Correctional officers.

SV Ramharak, A Cedris and Ms Mchunu – young Correctional Services officers who were mentored by Tallies Taljaard.

He did this with enthusiasm and three officials, SV Ramharak, A Cedris and Ms Mchunu, were all afforded the privilege to be taken under his wing.
Ms Mchunu mentioned that “Tallies is patient and he made sure that we understand everything.”
Commented Mr Ramharak: “He taught us to respect and made us understand the importance of each task.” Ms Cedris said: “I will share the information I have learnt with other officials.”
When addressing officials during his farewell function, Tallies conveyed his gratitude and appreciation to everyone for being part of his career and for all the positive contributions he had received from his colleagues.
