10 ways to keep your kids busy this Easter

Try these fun activities this Easter

Parents all across the globe struggle to find ways to keep their little ones busy and out of trouble when the Easter holiday rolls around.

Many parents don’t want to just stick their child in front of the television or let them run completely wild.

Try these fun activities that will both allow you to relax and also bond with your children, not breaking the bank:

1. Gardening: If you love gardening, why not let your little ones join in! You get to do something you like and they can learn something new.

Growing plants is a lot of fun and it’s even more fun if they can watch their plants grow right in front of them. A young child can grow a variety of plants without too much trouble – examples include small trees to herbs and vegetables.

If you don’t have a garden, then you can easily use a window box or small pots and it won’t matter what time of year you plant them.

Try growing herbs like basil and parsley – that way, they can eat them once they’ve grown. This is a bonus, as you don’t need to do all the work.

2. Get reading: Whether it’s at the local library or in the comfort of your own home, sitting down and reading a good book is never a bad choice.

Not only will this let your child’s imagination flourish, but it will also improve their reading skill, vocabulary and comprehension, which will help them in future.

3. Into the kitchen: As daunting as this activity sounds, cooking and baking is a great idea to keep children busy, especially if there is some adult supervision involved. It’s a great way to spend time together, as you can even shop for ingredients together and teach them about the ingredients.

4. Go on a picnic: You don’t have to go far, even your own garden is perfect! You can get the kids involved by asking them to use their imagination to set up for the picnic.

Set up a play tent if you have one. If you don’t, ask the kids to build their own using blankets or old linen.

This will have them occupied for at least 2-3 hours just to set up.

Use whatever leftovers you have in the fridge and ask them to assist with packing it into plastic containers.

This is also a great time for family bonding and the kids will love the excuse to play in the garden while you sit back and relax.

5. Blanket fort: Using old blankets and linen, you can help them create a plushy and child-safe fort.

Pair this with popcorn, drinks and a movie, and you have yourself the perfect way to keep your child busy.

6. Arts and crafts: Many children love letting their imagination take over and this can distract them for hours. Simply keep a box of everything they need: glue sticks, colourful paper, ribbon and the list can go on.

They can easily access these items and let their imagination run wild.

7. Board games: With the many board games available today, it’s easy to spend an entire day stuck on one.

It’s a great idea to have a family game night to distract the kids.

8. Scavenger hunt: You can give the kids a piece of paper with hints of where or what objects to find, and hide them all over the house.

This gives you a few hours to relax.

9. Create a playground: Kids love the playground, so allow them this fun. But it’s so much easier to keep an eye on them if you have something similar to one in your own garden.

So, this Easter, kit out your outdoor space and let them play uninterrupted for hours!

10. Play dates: If you have a friend who also has a child, arrange a play date and let the two kids get stuck in, playing and having fun, while you enjoy some company of your own.
