5 tips to make long drives more bearable, and stay alive

Think about exhaustion before you begin your journey, not after

Travelling is never fun, especially if it involves quite a few hours on the road. Add children, tired parents and a drive nobody enjoys, and your vacation could turn into one big argument and stressful adventure.

Here are 5 tips to keep in mind as you plan your travels (allow yourself a moment to breathe):

1. Stock up on sleep: Think about exhaustion before you begin your journey, not after. You should get at least seven hours of sleep for a minimum of two consecutive nights before a long-distance road trip to build up your energy.

2. Stops are good: You should stop at least every two hours to stay alert and take in the fresh air. You can plan to stop at meal times or to just take in some scenery.

3. Energy snacks: During long drives, avoid greasy meals and rather go for small snacks or small portions.

4. Play those tunes: Music is a great way to make time fly and gets people interacting.

5. Entertainment: We all hate fighting on long trips, so stop this from happening by keeping everyone entertained and happy. Especially the little ones who keep asking how much longer until you are at your destination.
