School faces a series of hurdles due to recent storms

It's sad and disturbing that 270 of my learners are learning under trees and whenever we suspect rain I have to dismiss them".

Msinga schools are still faced with a series of hurdles due to the recent storm that ravaged the area earlier this year.
Mzomusha Primary School was hit by the storm last year on September 15 and again in February this year. The school was left with three classrooms roofless and one of the classroom’s walls fell down. Mr Mthembu, the principal of the school, said “we reported this to the Department last year and they sent their inspectors to come and investigate the situation. They wrote a report and we haven’t seen them since. We thought they were going to come back and rebuild the damaged classrooms, but they have never set foot here again. It’s sad and disturbing that 270 of my learners are learning under trees and whenever we suspect rain I have to dismiss them”. The Courier asked Mr Mbatha whether has he done a follow-up with the department regarding the matter and he claims to have been contacting the department and not yet given a reason for the delay.
One of the nearby schools was also damaged. Mhlawothi High lost an entire admin block due to the heavy storms last year in September. Mr Ndlela, the principal of the school, said: “I also reported this last year and inspectors from the Department of Education came, but nothing has been done since. We have no electricity in our administration block. We have had to buy our own cables and plugs to connect electricity. Since then we have been working under strenuous conditions.”
The Courier spoke with Mr Kheswa who said the Department is attending to the matter and he is not at liberty to communicate with the media.
