Now this father-and-son business is bidding farewell.

“It was a difficult decision; it’s still difficult after all this time,” said Dr Tom Cilliers.

Newcastle Veterinary Hospital invited its clientele to the practise this Thursday, to enjoy tea and refreshments as a thank-you.

Thereafter, the business would be closed.

“We just want to thank the people of Newcastle for their support over the years.”

Dr Tom Cilliers had placed his career as veterinarian on hold, but emphasised he and his family would not be leaving Newcastle.

However, he relished the opportunity for more personal time.

“I have no interest in anywhere but Newcastle.”

Long-time employee, Babs Kruger, said she would miss those she had come to know over her 43 years of service.

“Newcastle has treated us well,” she and Dr Tom Cilliers concluded.
