Watch: 22-kilogram monster African Rock Python found just outside Ladysmith

The massive snake was found in the Mcitsheni area near Ezakheni

Local snake expert Fanie Cilliers was at it again on Friday (March 30) when he safely captured a monster sized African Rock Python.

The massive snake was found in the Mcitsheni area near Ezakheni, having been seen by residents on Thursday (March 29) late at night.

Fanie responded on Friday morning and located the snake near a homestead in the Mcitsheni area.

Fanie has stopped going out for African Rock Python snake calls due to a lack of funding, as he does it out of his own pocket and receives no funding from the municipality.

Where this particular snake was found, there are almost 30 young children living in the area. The snake could have easily bitten one of the children and even swallowed them whole, so Fanie made the decision to remove the snake.

The snake put up a strong fight, but was safely captured. It will be released at a game reserve outside Ladysmith, away from people and where there is plenty of food.

The snake was found to be a female, just over four metres in length and weighing in at a whopping 22kg!
