Turning disabilities into abilities on Human Rights Day

In commemoration of Human Rights Day, the local municipality promoted the rights of the disabled people. A fun walk was held from Princess Park to the Estcourt Secondary School grounds.

The Local Muni cipality Special Programmes Unit has developed a vibrant working relationship with the Umzimkhulu Municipality under the Harry Gwala District.

The two municipalities played a friendly soccer match where both scored five goals. The Umzimkhulu netball team won by nine points, to Inkosi Langalibalele who scored six.

The fun filled event was the start of many programmes that the municipality has planned for different sectors within its Special Programmes Unit.

It is the municipality’s wish to capacitate all disabled people within its jurisdiction in terms of skills development, promotion and advocacy of their rights as well as sport development.

The Disability Co-ordinator has a massive challenge of setting up stronger teams that will now form part of Disabled Sport of South Africa.
