Commercial property owners ‘ripped off’ by typo
If your property has a rates value of between R7.5 million and R10 million then you will be getting an incorrect rates rebate

Commercial property owners in the Inkosi Langalibalele municipal area may be horrified to find they are paying higher rates due to a typographical error.
A concerned Harding Street commercial property owner has brought this to the attention of the Estcourt News. He has asked to remain unknown, and would like for others to be made aware.
He has also alerted the Rates, Debtors and Rentals Support Department within the municipality of this.
“I have spoken to Makhosazane L Mbatha who said corrections cannot be made as the final rates rand changes for 2017/8 have already been advertised,” explained the concerned property owner.
Rates for commercial properties
Value of property rebate
• 0-1.5 million 21.5%
• 1.5-2.5 million 11.5%
• 2.5-7.5 million 15.5%
• 7.5-10 million 9.5%
• >10 million 30.5%
The error is in bold above. If your property has a rates value of between R7.5 million and R10 million then you will be getting an incorrect rates rebate of 9.5 percent, when you should be receiving a rebate of 19.5 percent.
