The Grade 12 learners currently doing Consumer Studies at Ladysmith Secondary School (Lasec) were recently put to the test as part of their National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination.
They had to prepare a starter, main course or dessert as part of their practical examination (PAT1).
The students had to prepare their chosen dish in two hours as part of their assignment.
Their educator, Mr K Bihaspat, invigilated the examination, in which the learners’ practical skills and correct usage of cutlery and crockery was assessed.
The learners also had to remember their recipes and follow all relevant procedures in the kitchen.
The pupils stated that they don’t have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces, just good food from fresh ingredients. After all, no one is born a great cook; one learns by doing and experimenting.
