There are signs one can look out for if a loved one is abusing alcohol, both short-term and long-term.

- Red eyes
- Poor balance
- Slurred speech
- Anxiety
- Aggressive behaviour
- Nausea
- Emotional outbursts
- Smelling of alcohol
- Forgetting things often
- Insomnia
- Hallucinations
Coma and death can be the result of alcohol poisoning.
