Growing pumpkins by the ton at Estcourt Christian Academy

The seed from the best pumpkin will be saved then dried ready to sow again next year

The Badger group up at Estcourt Christian Academy has seen the fruit (literally!) of their labour as they began to harvest pumpkins this week.

The plants were grown from seed that came from a pumpkin bought at a local supermarket.  The seeds were planted in the vegetable plot and cultivated using the ‘Farming God’s Way’ method.

This involves minimal disturbance of the soil and the conservation of precious water resources. They were very pleased with all their hard work and the pumpkins were shared out so they could be eaten and enjoyed.

The seed from the best pumpkin will be saved then dried ready to sow again next year.  The Badgers are now preparing the plot for the autumn and winter sowings of vegetables, which they hope will be just as successful and tasty!
