High volumes of traffic were on the N3 and due to the crash, the road was closed for several hours, which caused a major backlog.
The second major crash, that took place at the Tugela Plaza hours later, involved a minibus, a heavy motor vehicle and three light motor vehicles (including an RTI vehicle).
Two people tragically lost their lives in this crash. One person was critically injured and three sustained moderate to slight injuries. The injured were stabilised on scene before being rushed to hospital.
