Huge spider crawling around on Ladysmith woman’s bed

Nursery web spiders can usually be seen carrying large egg sacs

This spider looks scary, right? And also dangerous? But guess what, it’s not.

This eight-legged creature, which is called a nursery web spider, was found by local resident Bianca Joubert in her bed recently. Strange bedfellows, indeed!

Bianca says they have a lot of these spiders in their garden. When she spotted this one on her king-size mattress, she actually thought it was quite beautiful and not scary at all. She took a photo and then released it in a field.

Nursery web spiders can usually be seen carrying large egg sacs. They are hunting spiders and prominent around large bodies of water, creeks and streams.

Nursery web spiders bear a striking resemblance to the wolf spider, but there are minor differences.

They pose no significant threat to humans, but may be seen in the home from time to time.

If you’re seeing high numbers of these spiders, it’s probably due to nearby water and heavy breeding.
